Most of us realize eating the freshest, most natural forms of food are the best for us. As Elaine Magee, MPH, RD states in her article Food Synergy: Nutrients That Work Better Together , "Different components in a single food can work together to benefit our health..."
That's why it's so important to even eat the skin of many fruits and vegetables such as apples, potatoes and mangosteens. You find most of the nutrients in the skin.
Because different components in a food work together in a certain way, we need to be leery of products that say they have more of a certain component than other products because if they are adding things or taking away things then we aren't getting the benefits of how that particular food is supposed to be working in our bodies.
Elaine Magee, MPH, RD also states, "We do know that eating food as close to its natural form as possible is by far our best bet for improving health and preventing disease."
Be sure that the foods you are eating or the natural products you are using are truly as close to nature as they can be.
