We have had some hard times; a business closing, a husband that had to have emergency surgery and out of work for a month. That put us into a very tight financial situation. Finding money to pay bills has been difficult, let alone trying to find money to advertise our business. There are a lot of ways to advertise for "free" but even "free" costs you something.
I love this quote I found in "Make Money Online-Can You Do It" on the Social Networking Blog.
"What you lack in money you must make up in time. What you lack in time you can make up with money. You have to invest something and most people have more time than money."
Free has cost me time. It takes time to research and submit ads to free ad sites. It takes time to post in forums and in blogs. Is it worth it? Well, the verdict is still out on that one. I haven't been doing any of this long enough to see great results but I have seen increased traffic to my website. That's a start.
